Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova was born on the 12th February 1881 in Ligovo, St Petersburg.

She attended the Imperial Ballet School making her company debut in 1899 and quickly becoming prima ballerina. Her signature role was The Dying Swan, which she first performed in 1905. In 1910 she formed her own company with 8 dancers from St Petersburg. As they toured around the world, the company grew with many new English dancers. She died in 1931 having contracted pneumonia on tour.
